Ceratonia siliqua

Growing in Phoenix: Described as a flowering evergreen shrub, Carob grows easily in Arizona. It is cultivated for its edible pods and belongs to the legume family of plants which means it is also a nitrogen-fixing plant. Forms a lovely shape of twisty branches covered in attractive foliage. Pods develop in late fall and are ready to harvest in summer. They go from green to a dark reddish-brown once ripe. Carob makes a wonderful shade tree. It requires deep watering and takes the full sun in Arizona. Cold hardy down to 20 degrees.

Not suitable for containers.
