Description
Bulnesia arborea
Growing in Phoenix: Verawood is related to creosote and is native to Columbia and Venezuela. It is slow-growing evergreen with feathery foliage and sunny yellow blooms from March into October/ November. The tree has a spreading, rounded growth habit creating a dense canopy of shade. It is gorgeous when in bloom, and a buzz of activity as it attracts many pollinators. The wood is very durable and used for water turbines, pulley wheels, mallet heads, and railroad crossties. A compact tree is good for containers. It will handle full sun but needs to be protected below 40℉. Verawood needs a slightly acidic to neutral soil.
