Growing in Arizona: Canistel is a large, open, evergreen tree that has dark green leaves up to twelve inches long clustered at the tips of the branches. The fruit has an orange to yellow thin skin. They are commonly eaten fresh, used in cooking, pies and they are excellent in ice cream! When used in milk shakes they taste like eggnog. They are very similar in taste to the Lucuma from Andean countries. Prefers shade when hot. Good for container growing.

Pouteria campechiana

The fruit has a dense cake-like texture, resembling the yolk of a hard-boiled egg when ripe. Needs afternoon shade and winter protection below 30℉. Can be container grown in a 30-gallon or large pot.
