Growing in Phoenix: A small tree in the legume family with edible leaves, flowers, and pods. It is also called West Indian Pea. Pretty foliage with bright red flowers resembling a group of hummingbirds. The young leaves and flowers are edible and used in various Asian dishes. The young pods are also eaten often in a thin coconut milk gravy. The Hummingbird tree is a fast-growing tree that can be kept small in a container.
