Description
Dovyalis caffra
Growing in Phoenix: Native to Southern Africa along the Kei River. This is a medium-sized tree with wicked large thorns, It makes an excellent perimeter plant due to the thorny growth. It needs a male and female tree for better production. The fruit is small and yellow. They are often eaten fresh and sprinkled with sugar to offset the natural acidity. The trees are drought tolerant once established. They grow well in full sun and do not need protection in winter. Needs well-draining soil.
Suitable for container growing in a 30-gallon pot short term.
