Pandanus amaryllifolius
Growing in Phoenix: Pandan is a herbaceous tropical plant that grows abundantly in Southeast Asia. It is known as a fragrant plant in China due to its unique, sweet aroma. Pandan is similar to a palm, the bright green leaves are long and spiky. The leaves are used for flavor in Thai and Southeast Asian cuisine. Pandan is best grown in a container in Phoenix. It is ultra tropical and does not like the harsh sun. Once temperatures are above 90℉, grow under dappled shade or 50% shade cloth, or with morning sun only. In winter move the plant indoors once temperatures are below 40℉.
