Description
Syzygium malaccense
Growing in Phoenix: Native to Malaysia and Australia, but commonly cultivated across Asia. It is said to have been cultivated by the Austronesian people since prehistoric times. It is a beautiful tree with glossy fruit that hang in small clusters along the main stems. The shape of the fruit is reminiscent of both apples and cashew fruit. Malay apples have soft skin with a crispy juicy interior. They like the same conditions as mango trees. Provide a filtered light all day, or afternoon shade. Soil pH should be maintained at 6 and regular applications of soil sulfur, chelated iron, and chelated manganese are required. In winter protect below 30. It can be container grown.
